Introduction
At VCU Continuing and Professional Education, we believe learning is most powerful when it brings together academic expertise and real-world experience. That’s why we partner with university faculty, organizations, and workforce leaders to co-create programs that are informed by research, shaped by industry insights, and designed for immediate application. Together, we expand access to high-quality, market-responsive learning that strengthens communities, supports employers, and empowers individuals across the Commonwealth.
Academic Partners
As we expand to broaden our support and deepen our partnerships with organizations and with the workforce across the region and the state, we invite VCU faculty to collaborate with us as we build new programs that align with academic research, interests, and expertise. We are partnering with VCU units to introduce innovative learning experiences that elevate workforce teams across industries.
Some partnerships include working with:
- Department of Philosophy to create an asynchronous, noncredit Ethics of AI course
- Department of African American Studies to create a training course for current high school AP teachers
- College of Engineering to deliver on-site Automation & Controls training
Our work with faculty includes:
- Exploring new topics that translate into courses and programs for targeted industry audiences
- Coordinating the design and delivery of noncredit learning opportunities
- Providing noncredit program support such as registration services, financial management, marketing, and CEU/digital badging coordination
- Partnering in custom training instruction for organizations including businesses, non-profits, government agencies, and community programs
Workforce Partners
At VCU CPE, we work closely with employers, industry leaders, and community organizations to develop programs that meet the evolving needs of today’s workforce. Through custom training, professional development, and innovative noncredit offerings, we help organizations invest in their people, strengthen performance, and build long-term capacity.
Some of our recent workforce partnerships include working with:
- ChildSavers to provide training that supports mental and behavioral health practitioners working with children and families in various settings
- Allianz Partners to deliver professional development for developing leaders within their organization
- Virginia Municipal Clerks Association to offer continuing education that strengthens local government operations
- Commonwealth of Virginia Paralegal Association to enhance legal professional learning and credentialing pathways
- LERN to offer continuing education courses and programs across industries
Our work with workforce partners includes:
- Co-designing custom training tailored to organizational needs in leadership, communication, technical skills, and emerging industry practices
- Delivering on-site or virtual instruction through VCU faculty experts, experienced practitioners, and credentialed trainers
- Supporting talent development initiatives that upskill or reskill employees to meet changing expectations and technologies
- Managing noncredit program infrastructure, including registration services, financial coordination, digital badging, CEUs, and marketing support
- Developing scalable workforce learning pathways that help organizations strengthen pipelines and achieve strategic goals
