Athenian Dialogue

In collaboration with the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC), this Athenian Leadership Society Dialogue series is hosted by Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).

This virtual series invites municipal clerks to explore key leadership principles, strengthen critical thinking skills, and engage in meaningful peer dialogue. Each session is centered on an influential book, providing a framework for reflection, discussion, and real-world application within the context of public service.

About

Athenian Dialogues

Designed to enhance the leadership capacity of municipal clerks, Athenian Dialogues focus on developing analytical thinking, broadening perspective, and building the confidence to lead effectively in local government.

Through guided discussions grounded in literary works, participants examine ideas and experiences that shape strong, ethical leadership. After completing ten Athenian Dialogues, active IIMC members in good standing are eligible to apply for fellowship in the IIMC Athenian Leadership Society—a recognition of continued learning and leadership excellence.

All Athenian Dialogues are IIMC pre-approved and eligible for three (3) CMC Education Points or three (3) MMC Advanced Education Points with the successful completion of the required assessment.
