AP African American Studies

African American Studies offers a lens through which students – and educators – can explore the complex intersections of identity, power, resistance and creativity that have shaped our nation and world. Teaching this subject with depth and accuracy requires both a strong grasp of the discipline and the ability to translate that knowledge into meaningful, engaging instruction.

The AP African American Studies teacher development course is a four-week, asynchronous online program designed to support current and prospective teachers in building both content mastery and instructional skill. Guided by educator feedback from across the country, participants will deepen their understanding of African American Studies as a field, explore effective strategies for curriculum design and student engagement, and develop practical lesson and semester plans ready for classroom use.
